# What is 140-series numbers?

140-series numbers are the range TRAI designates for promotional telemarketing calls.

Promotional calls market a product or service to people with no existing relationship, so they carry stricter requirements, including honouring the DND registry and calling-hour limits.

If you only call existing customers about their orders, appointments or accounts, you are generally in the service category instead.

## Common questions

Can I use a normal mobile number for outbound business calls?

Commercial calling is expected to use designated telemarketing series. Check TRAI's current rules or ask your provider.
