# What is Average handle time (AHT)?

Average handle time is the average length of a call from start to finish, including any follow-up work.

For human teams AHT drives staffing. For AI agents the more useful view is cost and outcome per call: a shorter call is not better if it fails to resolve the caller's need.

Setting a maximum call duration stops stalled calls burning credit while leaving room for normal conversations.

At Vyora: Vyora lets you set a maximum call duration per agent, from 2 to 20 minutes.

## Common questions

What is a good call length for an AI agent?

It depends on the job: a reminder may take under a minute, a qualification call several minutes. Compare by outcome, not just length.
