# What is Voicemail detection?

Voicemail detection recognises when an outbound call has reached an answering machine instead of a person, so the system can react correctly.

Without it, an agent may start its pitch to a recording. With it, the system can hang up, leave a short message or log the call for a retry.

No detector is perfect, so the fallback matters: a short, neutral message works better than a long pitch if the guess is wrong.

At Vyora: Vyora lets you pick one of three voicemail behaviours: hang up, leave a short spoken summary, or leave a fixed message.

## Common questions

Should my agent leave a voicemail?

For many use cases a short callback message is enough; for others hanging up and retrying later is cleaner. Decide per campaign.
