In Telugu, respect does the work that gender does in Hindi

Telugu first-person verbs are the same for a male or female speaker (“మాట్లాడుతున్నాను” either way), so the voice you pick does not change the script. What changes how the call lands is respect: a Telugu caller notices immediately when it is missing.
