Free AI Calling Agent in India: What You Actually Get

Every platform in this category advertises something free, and almost none of them mean the same thing by it. Here is what the free tiers genuinely include, what a handful of credits really buys, whether the open-source route saves money, and how to spend a free allowance so the evaluation tells you something.

Short answer

Free AI calling agents in India exist, but every free tier is trial-sized, not production-sized. Published allowances run from a few minutes to about an hour of call time — enough to evaluate a platform, not enough to run a campaign.

Nothing makes calling permanently free: telephony, speech recognition, the language model and voice synthesis all bill per minute, whoever hosts them.

“Free” means four different things

Free tier

A permanent allowance that never expires and needs no card. Small by design. Vyora’s 50 credits work this way — they sit on your account indefinitely.

Free trial

Time-boxed access, often requiring a card, that converts to paid unless cancelled. Generous while it lasts, but it is a countdown not an allowance.

Freemium with limits

Full product access capped on a dimension other than time — agents, contacts, or concurrent calls. Read which dimension is capped, because it decides whether you can test your actual use case.

Open source

The software is free to run. The calls are not. You still pay telephony, speech and model costs per minute, plus the engineering time to assemble and maintain it.

What each platform gives away

Free allowances as published by each vendor, August 2026. Only platforms publishing a specific figure are listed — where evaluation requires a sales call, that is noted, because it is itself useful to know.

What a free allowance actually buys

Being specific about our own: Vyora gives 50 credits on signup, no card. At 15 credits per minute that is roughly 3 minutes of call time — one proper test call to your own number, or a few short ones.

That is deliberately enough to answer the only question that matters at this stage: does the agent sound right to your customers, in your language, on a real phone line? It is not enough to call a list, and we would rather say so than have you discover it mid-campaign.

The credits do not expire. If you sign up today, test next month and go live the month after, they are still sitting there. Full plan detail is on the pricing page, and the market-wide comparison is in AI calling agent price in India.

Is open source the free option?

Open-source voice agent frameworks are genuinely free to license, and for a team with engineering capacity and unusual requirements they are a reasonable path. But “free software” is not “free calls”.

Running your own still means paying for telephony minutes and numbers, a speech-to-text provider, a language model, and text-to-speech — the same four costs any platform passes on, minus the platform’s margin. Add a developer to assemble it, someone to keep it running, and DLT registration to call legally in India.

The honest test: if your engineering time is worth less than a few thousand rupees a month, self-hosting wins. For most SMBs it is the more expensive option wearing a cheaper label.

How to spend free credits so they tell you something

Call your own phone, not a browser demo

Browser audio is clean and wideband. Indian telephony is compressed 8kHz, and it exposes weaknesses in accent handling that a web demo hides completely. Always spend free credits on a real phone call.

Test the language you actually sell in

An agent that handles English cleanly can fall apart on Hinglish code-switching mid-sentence — which is how most Indian customers speak. Test the exact mix your customers use.

Interrupt it

Talk over the agent halfway through a sentence. Good platforms stop and listen; weak ones keep reading their script. This single test separates most of the market.

Ask something off-script

Your script covers the happy path. Real customers do not. Ask an unexpected question and see whether the agent recovers or collapses.

Check what you get back afterwards

Look for the transcript, recording and call outcome in the dashboard. If a free tier hides post-call data, you cannot evaluate quality at any tier.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free AI calling agent in India?

Yes, but free tiers in this category are trial-sized rather than production-sized. Vyora gives 50 credits on signup with no credit card, which is roughly 3 minutes of call time — enough to build an agent and hear it on your own phone. Tabbly and Bolti publish similar free allowances. Treat any of them as a test drive: enough to judge voice quality and setup effort, not enough to run a campaign.

Can I build an AI calling agent for free permanently?

Not for real outbound volume. Even if the platform layer were free, every connected minute costs money — telephony, speech-to-text, the language model and text-to-speech all bill per use, and in India you also need TRAI-registered numbers. Any platform offering unlimited free calling is either subsidising you temporarily or is not actually placing real phone calls.

What can I actually do with 50 free credits?

On Vyora, 15 credits equal 1 minute, so 50 credits is about 3 minutes of call time. In practice that is one full test call to your own number, or two or three short ones. It is enough to write your script, pick a voice and language, place a live call and listen to how the agent handles interruptions and an Indian accent — which is the only reliable way to evaluate a platform.

Do free AI calling tools need a credit card?

Some do, some do not, and it is worth checking before you sign up. Vyora requires no card for the free 50 credits. Where a card is required for a "free trial", the trial usually converts to a paid plan automatically unless you cancel — which is a different product from a genuine free tier.

Is an open-source AI calling agent cheaper?

Cheaper in licence fees, rarely cheaper overall. Self-hosting an open-source stack still means paying for telephony minutes, speech-to-text, a language model and text-to-speech per call, plus a developer to build and maintain it and DLT registration to call legally in India. It makes sense if you have engineering capacity and unusual requirements; it does not make sense as a way to avoid a ₹799 subscription.

When do I need to move off the free tier?

The moment you want to call a list rather than test a script. Free allowances across the market run from a few minutes to about an hour — fine for evaluation, exhausted by a single real campaign. If you are dispatching COD orders or following up leads daily, price the paid tier from day one and use the free credits purely to confirm the agent sounds right.

Start with 50 free credits

No credit card. Build an agent, call your own phone, and judge it for yourself. Credits never expire.
