What is Voice bot?
A voice bot is an automated system that talks to callers; older voice bots follow fixed scripts and keywords, newer ones use language models to converse more naturally.
The word covers a wide range, from a simple bot that recognises "yes" or "no" to a conversational system that handles open questions. The older style breaks when callers say something unexpected; the newer style adapts.
Because the two get mixed up in sales material, check what a vendor actually offers: free-form speech understanding, support for your languages, and what happens when the bot does not understand.
Common questions
- Voice bot or AI voice agent: which term should I use?
- They overlap. "AI voice agent" usually implies a language-model-driven system that can complete tasks, while "voice bot" is the broader and older term.
