What is SIP trunk?

A SIP trunk is an internet-based connection that carries voice calls between a company's phone system and the public telephone network.

It replaces physical phone lines with a virtual link provided by a telecom carrier. Voice AI platforms use SIP trunks to place and receive calls on your numbers.

If you want the AI to use your own existing numbers, you typically connect a trunk from your provider to the platform; otherwise the platform supplies numbers for you.

Common questions

Do I need a SIP trunk to start with an AI voice agent?
Not usually. Many platforms provide ready numbers, and a trunk is needed only to bring your own.
