What is TCCCPR 2018?

TCCCPR, the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2018, is TRAI's rulebook for commercial calls and SMS in India.

It introduced registration of senders and templates on distributed-ledger (DLT) platforms, preference registers for customers, consent recording and rules for promotional versus service calls. TRAI has since issued amendments, so check the current text.

Practically, it means commercial calls must come from the right number series, honour customer preferences and be traceable to a registered entity.
