Calling rules in India - hours, DLT, DND and recording consent
Updated
Quick answer
Vyora only dials campaign calls between 9 AM and 9 PM IST. Call people who know your business or asked to hear from you, respect DND and "please don't call me" requests, and tell people the call is recorded. Your agent can say this in its intro, but consent for your contact list is your responsibility.
This page is a plain-language summary to help you run campaigns responsibly. It is not legal advice. For anything specific to your business, check with your telecom provider or a lawyer.
Calling hours: 9 AM to 9 PM IST
Vyora only places campaign calls between 9 AM and 9 PM IST. You can pick a narrower window when you create a campaign, but not a wider one. If you try, you see:
A campaign launched in the evening keeps its remaining contacts for the next morning. Test calls you place to your own number are not limited to these hours.
Who you should call
The safest list is people who already know your business:
- customers who placed an order and should confirm it
- leads who filled your form or asked for a callback
- patients, students or clients with an appointment
- existing customers you serve, for reminders and follow-ups
Cold lists of people who never heard of you carry the most risk: low pickup, spam reports and complaints.
DND numbers
India has a national "Do Not Disturb" registry (also called NDNC) where people opt out of promotional calls. Promotional calls to these numbers are not allowed unless the person has given you consent.
Practical rules for your lists:
- Keep a record of how each contact reached you, for example the form, order or enquiry.
- If someone says they don't want calls, remove them from your next list.
- If a call fails with "the network refused the call (number may be on DND or barred)", don't keep retrying that number.
DLT registration
DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is the registration system Indian telecom operators use for businesses that send commercial calls and SMS. Number series are assigned by purpose: 140 numbers for promotional calls and 160 numbers for service and transactional calls.
What applies to you depends on which number your calls go out from and what the calls are for. If you are unsure, raise a ticket and the team will tell you how your workspace's number is set up. Our guide to DLT registration in India explains the process in more detail.
Call recording consent
Every Vyora call is recorded so you can play it back and read the transcript. Tell the people you call:
- Add a line to your agent's intro, for example: "This call is recorded for quality and records."
- In Hindi: "Yeh call quality aur record ke liye record ki ja rahi hai."
Your agent can announce recording in its intro, but getting consent from your contact list is your responsibility.
Say who is calling
Start every call with your business name and the reason for the call, for example "Namaste, main Sharma Dental Clinic se bol rahi hoon, aapke kal ke appointment ke baare mein." People hang up on calls that sound anonymous, and a clear intro also makes your calls easier to defend if anyone complains.
