Fix how your agent pronounces names and places
Updated
Quick answer
Turn on Transliterate name for test calls and Transliterate callee names for campaigns, so names are written in the agent's language before the voice reads them. Make sure the name column holds real names, not numbers or blanks, and write important place and brand names in the script the way they are spoken, in the agent's own script.
Why names come out wrong
The voice reads text. An Indian name written in English letters, such as "Rajesh", can sound wrong in a Hindi or Tamil voice, and a short or unusual spelling can be read out letter by letter. Vyora has no separate pronunciation dictionary, so the fixes below all change the text the voice is given.
Turn on name transliteration
Transliteration rewrites the person's first name in the agent's language before the call, for example "Rajesh" to "राजेश", so the voice pronounces it correctly.
- Test calls: in the call form, tick Transliterate name. It writes the name in the agent's non-English language, or in Hindi if the agent speaks only English.
- Campaigns: in Campaign Builder, switch on Transliterate callee names. It is switched on automatically when the agent speaks a language other than English.
On test calls with transliteration on, the agent uses the first name only.
Check the names in your contact list
Many "wrong name" calls come from the CSV, not the voice. Campaign Builder warns you before launch when:
- the value is empty, so the agent skips it or stumbles
- the value is "nan", "null" or "N/A", and the agent says it
- the name is a phone number, and the agent reads out the digits
Fix those rows in your sheet and upload again.
When Vyora works out a contact's first name, it drops titles such as Mr, Mrs, Dr and Shri and single-letter initials at the start, so "Dr. Ravi Sharma" becomes "Ravi".
Places, products and brand names in the script
For words that are always the same, such as your city, locality, clinic or product name, write them in the script the way they are spoken:
- Open the agent and click Edit.
- In Intro Message, Task and FAQ, write the word in the agent's own script. For a Hindi agent, write "लखनऊ" instead of "Lucknow".
- If a word is still read wrong, try a phonetic spelling, or split a long brand name into the parts people say.
- Click Save Changes and place a Test call to hear it.
The Translate to... option on selected script text can help convert a section into the agent's language.
Help the agent understand names the caller says
Vocabulary Boosting in the agent editor takes words or names the agent should recognise more accurately when the caller says them, such as product names or localities. Type a word and press Enter, then save. This improves listening, not how the voice says the word.
Language and voice
- Set Primary Language to the language your callers speak. A Hindi voice reading an English script, or the reverse, sounds unnatural. See Languages and multilingual agents.
- Try a different voice. Voices handle names differently, so play the samples under Select Voice with a sentence that contains your tricky words.
- If speech sounds rushed, lower Voice Speed.
