Languages and multilingual agents

Updated

Quick answer

Agents can speak English (India), English (US), Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Punjabi and Odia. Each agent has one primary language and an optional secondary one, and the voice must speak both. On Business and Enterprise, the Multilingual agent switch lets it talk to callers in more languages.

Languages you can pick

These are the options for Primary Language and Secondary Language, on every plan:

English (India), English (US), Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia, Gujarati and Malayalam.

Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil and Marathi are all available as a primary language.

Set the primary and secondary language

  1. Open the agent from Agents and click Edit (or set it in step 2 when you create the agent).
  2. Choose Primary Language. This is the language the agent mainly speaks.
  3. Choose Secondary Language, or None. When you pick a primary language other than English, English (India) is filled in as the secondary automatically.
  4. Under Select Voice, pick a voice. A voice can only be used if it speaks every language you chose. Voices that speak both show Speaks both, and a secondary language no voice can handle shows "(no voice speaks both)".
  5. Click Save Changes.

Rules to know:

  • The two languages must be different. English (India) and English (US) cannot be paired.
  • Changing the language does not translate the script. Rewrite it, or select text and use Translate to... in the script editor.

Hindi and Hinglish agents

There is no separate Hinglish option. For Hinglish, set Primary Language to Hindi and keep English (India) as the secondary.

When Vyora AI writes a Hindi script, it writes the way people talk on business calls: Hindi sentences with everyday English words like order, payment, delivery, confirm and schedule, and without formal, heavy Hindi. You can edit it to sound more or less English.

Multilingual agent (Business and Enterprise)

The Multilingual agent switch, below the language pickers, lets the agent talk to each caller in their own language, beyond its primary and secondary.

  1. Turn on Multilingual agent. It adds every extra language the chosen voice can speak.
  2. To pick only some, click Choose languages and select them.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Extra languages you can add: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam and Punjabi.

Limits:

  • Only languages the voice can speak. Languages it cannot speak are crossed out. To add them, pick a voice that speaks more languages.
  • Not for Odia agents. If Odia is the primary or secondary language, the switch stays off.
  • On Free and Builder the switch is locked and the agent speaks its primary and secondary languages only. See Plans compared.

Tips

  • Write the script in the primary language. The intro is read out exactly as written.
  • Test with a Test call in each language you expect callers to use.
  • Names in English letters can sound wrong in an Indian-language voice. See Fix how your agent pronounces names and places.
